About Discover Pownal

Discover Pownal promotes the growth and development of Pownal’s local businesses and farms, social organizations, land stewardship, and outdoor recreation through outreach, education, and community events.

Guiding principles:

We see Pownal’s social, cultural, and natural resources as assets worth promoting and sharing.

We believe in economic development that builds community and protects our natural environment.

Discover Pownal developed out of the Empower Pownal Community Visit process, facilitated by the Vermont Council on Rural Development in 2017. Other Discover Pownal initiatives include recreation, small business and conservation efforts, all intended to strengthen community and economic development for the area.

In the very southwestern corner of Vermont and nestled in the Hoosic River Valley, Pownal is a gateway to all of the state lying to the north and the east. It is home to a beautiful river valley, lush agricultural lands and rolling hills populated with the great recreational opportunities that come with a diverse and scenic rural landscape. In addition to a favorable town infrastructure, Pownal is also rich in human resources, with an active and engaged citizenry who care deeply about the town and its future.

Founded by Shannon Barsotti and Jenny Dewar

We are in the process of registering Discover Pownal as a 501(c)3. We are very grateful to Taconic Music for volunteering to be our Fiscal Agent in the meanwhile.
