Everyone is welcome to join us every 4th Monday at the Pownal Library at 6:30 p.m. to plan and work on ways to increase the recreational opportunities in Pownal, for children through seniors. [Note: for May, we will meet on Tuesday at 6:30 in the Library.]
With potential access points to the Long/Appalachian and Taconic Ridge Trails, and with the Hoosic River flowing through it, Pownal has many great hiking and outdoor recreational opportunities, yet many are difficult to find. Hiking, biking, kayaking, fly fishing, snowmobiling, and ATV’s have a significant local following and the potential to attract visitors.
The Task Force has inventoried existing town resources (see the link above) and wants to select areas to develop as a way of providing recreational opportunities for residents and also attracting more visitors to town. The committee may focus on such tasks as providing better access points to the river, helping clear existing trails and identifying stewards to monitor them, designating bicycle trails, developing recreation opportunities for children, and promoting respectful and legal ATV activities and/or snowmobiling trails that the Town can support.
So, if you have the desire to help create more recreation opportunities for children through seniors, please join us.
We’re open to grant opportunities and ideas we haven’t even thought of yet.
